Mendocino vacation - March 2008

We just returned from our annual trip to Mendocino...11 days of of ocean waves and birds and seals and headlands and terrific meals and great wine and...fires in the fireplace....more wine...
We watched several UK series....The Forthsyte Saga...A Dance to the Music of Time...Clarrisa. The only problem with having watched so many UK period pieces?? They have become jumbled and in my mind they are all one big movie, a movie set in the English countryside...I feel as if I've eaten a gallon of clotted cream. What fun!!
Goya's Ghost is also floating around...and the Great McGinty.
We rented the same house that we have rented for 12 years....Sea Arch. We rent from Mendocino Coast Reservations. Rick & Ligaya, the owners are wonderful. I had a lovely converstaion with Ligaya...can't wait to get to know her better.
Had wonderful meals at The Ledford House, The Harbor House, and The Elk Cove Inn.
All of these restaurants have incredible ocean views. There are some pretty impressive chefs on the Mendocino coast....thumbs up to Kristy Wilson at Elk Cove Inn and Lisa & Tony Geer at Ledford House. Special note....Tony gets up every morning to bake 20+ loaves of bread for the evening meal. Great bread!! Plus a great affordable wine list!
Last but not least in the restaurant division.....QUEENIE'S ROADHOUSE CAFE! Lynn Derrick whips up incredible breakfasts/lunches. I'm addicted to her scones and the local scene is a pageant of surprises.
Shops?
For a great selection of art supplies and stationery....cards and things that you didn't know ya needed head to Racines.
Go to The Sandpiper, in Mendocino on Main, for a fabulous selection of affordable jewelry.
Sallie Mac is a fun stop for a hit of the 'french countryside' on the California coast. Loads of lovely smells and pretty sights.

Lucia - Andrea di Robilant

Reading Lucia & Carnivale at the same time has been great fun. One is an historical novel and the other is historical fiction (Carnivale). Both are set in the same time frame and have some of the same characters...Casanova and Byron.
Here is an article about Andrea di Robilant
