Mendocino Headlands - Whiffen Spit BC -Birchwood Lake NJ

My two favorite walks...Birchwood Lake in New Jersey and Whiffen Spit in Sooke, Vancouver Island.
An easy journey for a morning walk.

Birchwood trail takes us on a loop around the lake. Whiffen Spit is a narrow strip of land that goes about a mile into the bay at's almost like walking on water.

At Birchwood Lake we've spotted blue herons, hawks, snapping turtles....and DOGS!
Whiffen Spit there was a bald eagle watching over us in a tree.

I wish Whiffen Spit were closer...then we could alternate walks!

How could I possibly forget about the Mendocino Headlands walk. It is so spectacular!
When Paul & I went for our walk around Birchwood he reminded me. . . .

Greedy, greedy, greedy! Some people want it all. But then if there's anyone I'd like to see have it all it would be you and Paul. :-) ~K

You're an amazingly talented photographer. Read Z's article on SI, with the comment on my hometown of Orcas Island, so thought I'd check out your pics, which were remarkable. The two of you obviously had a great time, and explored a remarkable piece of God's green earth. I grew up in Cormorant Bay, about a half mile down the road from where you stayed at the Deer Harbor Inn. It's truly a beautiful and peaceful place. Also lived for four years in Randolph, NJ - we were practically neighbors! Thank you for sharing, and God bless you and Paul. For him... (so he doesn't feel left out) I enjoy his wine recommendations!
